背景/Background
Abnormalacidgastro-oesophagealreflux(GER)ishypothesisedtoplayaroleinprogressionofidiopathicpulmonaryfibrosis(IPF).WeaimedtodeterminewhethertreatmentofabnormalacidGERwithlaparoscopicanti-refluxsurgeryreducestherateofdiseaseprogression.

TheWRAP-IPFtrialwasarandomisedcontrolledtrialoflaparoscopicanti-refluxsurgeryinpatientswithIPFandabnormalacidGERrecruitedfromsixacademiccentresintheUSA.WeenrolledpatientswithIPF,abnormalacidGER(DeMeesterscoreof≥14·7;measuredby24-hpHmonitoring)andpreservedforcedvitalcapacity(FVC).WeexcludedpatientswithaFVCbelow50%predicted,aFEV?/FVCratiooflessthan0·65,ahistoryofacuterespiratoryillnessinthepast12weeks,abody-massindexgreaterthan35,andknownseverepulmonaryhypertension.Con
